RED BUFF –  American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will be stopping by the State Theater for a show Friday, Nov.18.

Hicks won American Idol in 2006 and has had a prolific career since then. After American Idol, he released a number Billboard single and an RIAA-certified platinum debut. He was featured on Jimmy Fallon’s Blow Your Pants, a Grammy-winning record, and landed a Las Vegas residency.

Despite an expansive touring history, Hicks has never been to Red Bluff, a place and area he is excited to check it. He is equally excited to perform at the theater after so much about it.

“I kind of thrown this kind of this really cool idea together, where I will do some of my songs off of American Idol,” Hicks said. “I will do some songs from my albums. And I will do some Bob Seger covers. So it kind of runs through the whole gamut plus a really great artists that I that I grew up performing.

Recently, Hicks recorded a cover of Jingle Bells, which may show up during the show. Part of what made him want to cover the song was he had a cool rockabilly idea for the cover and the fact that he loves Jingle Bells.

Hicks describes himself as a fan of traditional versions of Christmas songs and seeks out older recordings of them.

“The older the better,” he says.

Besides music, Hicks has ventured out to acting as well. He starred in Serenbe Playhouse’s 2019 production of”Shenandoah,” touring as Teen Angel in  “Grease” and appearing on “Law & Order: SVU” and hosting the INSP series “State Plate,” which won the Cynopsis TV Award for Best Reality Series.

“Being able to remember in your lines to music is no different than remembering your lines to acting,” Hicks said. “That is the most simple, common thread that I can think of, but there is definitely the mental aspect of focusing on your character.”

A renaissance man, Hick has also up  SAW’s Juke Joint, a restaurant crowned one of the “25 Best Barbecue Spots in America” by Men’s Journal.

“The is not too much that I have not done in this career that has now spanned about 20-something years,” Hicks said.
